Happy Friendship Day!

In this fast-paced world, we’re struggling to keep up. It is necessary to prove ourselves or else we’ll be judged. All relationships are fading away and friendship is one of them. True friendship is one of the purest forms of bonds. Friends know us better than ourselves. Friends are the ones who love us unconditionally and never judge us.

A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.

A true friend is that one shoulder you can cry on and that one soul you can confide in. Having someone like that is necessary especially now, when none will pull you up when you are down.

A single rose can be my garden… a single friend, my world.

                                                                                                                     -Leo Buscaglia

Friendship can be with anyone be it your partners, family members or the pets you love. So, find anyone who ‘vibes’ with you and enjoy!

The idea of Friendship Day was first introduced by the founder of Hallmark cards, Joyce Hal, in 1920. The day was celebrated by exchanging greeting cards, but it was in 1958 that Dr Ramon Artemio Bracho coined the term ‘Friendship Day’ and started a foundation called The World Friendship Crusade. To respect the word friendship the First World friendship day was proposed for 30th July in 1958 by World Friendship Crusade.  On 27th April 2011 the General Assembly of United Nation declared 30th July as official International Friendship Day.

Indian mythology has witnessed many friendships which have stood the test of time and are still looked up to. The friendships of Krishna-Sudama, Karna-Duryodhan, Draupadi-Krishna are celebrated to this day. If we look back into the Western world, the friendship duos of Octavian and Grippa (Roman Empire 42 BC-12 BC), Thomas Edison and Henry Ford (United States 1886-1931), Mark Twain and Nikola Tesla (United States 1903-1910) and countless others. Friends together can achieve much more that can be dreamt of.

Today it’s difficult to find a friend. There are many who’ll fake friendship just for personal interests. There are still more who’ll come into our lives and disappear without the slightest reason. Nevertheless, true friendship is invaluable and before finding a true friend, we must ensure that we can be one.

I wish a very happy Friendship Day to all my friends reading this and pray that our friendship lasts long. However, friendship is to be celebrated every single moment and I urge you to do so.

If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you.                                                                                                                                                            -Winnie the Pooh
